Is five fruits the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything? Why not 42? The truth is we don’t know. Scientists will swing this way and that and produce statistics to prove anything they wish They swing the way the fundings go. Meanwhile nanny state governments confuse us more. They tell us eat five fruits, no eat seven fruits. How about veg? What about all those fanatics who juice bucket loads of fruit and veg and fill their stomachs with that disgusting gunge? I have seen people assiduously cutting up their fruits regularly through the day, after washing them of course, die of cancer at a young age. No! They do not bravely fight cancer. They die horribly, scared shitless. And yet, we have all this myths about what is good for us and what is not good for us. Recently I even found scientists saying that there is no convincing proof that pollution and environmental factors may be the cause of cancer. So where do we go from here?
No wonder a great many people just give up and live as they choose, and damn the consequence.
If someone who eats five fruits gets ill, they say she did not exercise enough; if she eats fruits and exercises well, they say she had a stressful life; if she is perfect in all these matters, she is supposed to have a genetic disposition. You cannot win. So what gives?
I think the answer is to take control of you own life and follow a common sense approach. At least if you then fail you have no one else to blame but yourself. Eat moderately and well, keep hydrated, drink alcohol in moderation, exercise adequately by building it into your life style, keep an active and non stressful social life, do things for others without expecting any reward, smile and spread a bit of happiness around, dance, do yoga, whatever, be detached from physical possessions as much as you can, afterall you are going to leave them behind soon and be spiritual in some way; meditation is one way of being spiritual.
So there! It all amounts to 42. That is the answer to life, the universe and everything.
